Wedding Checklist in Big Picture

This is a guideline for the overall preparations needed prior to a wedding ceremony. It only serves as a reference and you can always made your own arrangement.

9-12 months before wedding:
    • Announcement:  Both families should know the good news. Select the date for both families to meet.
    • Select a date: Book a date with Feng Shui Master (if needed) and determine the potential dates and times for the wedding. This is one of the very first decisions that have to make because the rest of the wedding cannot be planned without a date. Try to have a few dates on hand so that it is more flexible for venue booking. May also need to take into consideration that some guests who need to travel long distances.
    • Setting a budget: Talk to both families about the wedding expectations and decide on a wedding budget.
    • Start guest list: Have a time to sit down and start drafting the names of guests that you plan to invite.
    • Select the venue: Scout for the wedding venue that suits your requirements and expectations. Book as early as possible as the popular hotels or restaurants can be easily reserved for other events.
    • Choose wedding rings: Scout for the suitable wedding rings. There are promotions from time to time.
    • Sign up wedding/bridal package: We choose to sign up a package from a bridal shop to save up time looking around for wedding gowns and accessories, as everything will come in a package.

    6-9 months before wedding:
    • Engage photographer and/or videographer – Spend some time in surfing the internet. Check the photographers and/or videographers’ websites for their profile and ask for quotation. Choose the one that suits the budget and own requirements. Alternately, check if there is any recommendation from relatives or friends.
    • Engage hair & makeup artist (MUA) – Search online or approach a bridal shop or get recommendations from friends. There are also a number of freelance MUA out there. Contact them and ask for quotation.
    • Look for wedding live band entertainment and DJ – Most of the wedding live bands contain their own website. Contact them by email and ask for quotation. May also get recommendations from relatives or friends.
    • Save the date – Inform overseas guests earlier about the date so that they can have enough time to plan and take leave.
    • Pre-wedding photo shoot – Discuss with bridal shop service person and photographer. It is done earlier to allow time for photo book design and development works.
    • Start a beauty regime – Weight control activities, hair dying and skin care to prepare for wedding photo shoot as well as to look the best on the wedding actual day.
    • Book and arrange accommodations – Survey and look for accommodations for oversea guests.

    3-6 months before wedding:
    • Research on invitation or stationary suppliers
    • Register for marriage
    • Catering and decide on menu
    • Order wedding cake
    • Shop for bridal accessories (if needed)
    • Arrange for wedding transportation
    • Discuss family traditions
    • Finalize guest lists
      
    1-2 months before wedding:
    • Send out invitation cards
    • Confirm attendance & seating plans
    • Decorations for the reception table

    1-4 weeks before wedding: 
    • Prepare speech
    • Confirm with photographers and/or videographers, makeup artist, and wedding band.
    • Thank you gifts (angpow?)

    1week before - actual day: 
    • - Get ready for the actual day, sit down and relax!
